INDIA HAS ARRIVED

It is a historic day for India. It is the day when India got the long awaited weaver from the NSG ( Nuclear Suppliers Group). It is historic on many counts. NSG which was set up as a reaction to India's first test in Pokharan in 1974. Now that same organisation has given India a weaver that allows international commerce in nuclear and other sensitive and restrictive technology despite the fact that India's strategic weapons program remains untouched and out of bounds of the International community and agreements.

India is now free to do trade in nuclear and other sensitive technology with all the major powers of the world which includes France and Russia. It is in a way acknowledgement of India's status of a responsible nuclear power. Despite India possessing advanced nuclear technology having started it's nuclear program well over five decades ago, India has never proliferated the highly exclusive technology, in other words, India has never given or transferred this technology to any country. This unblemished track record is a standing testament to India's track record of a responsible world power.

The sailing in the NSG was not easy. But thanks to USA, we could see it through. The unexpected objections by China had literally taken us off guard. The publication of the letter that was supposed to be classified in USA also put the cog in the wheel. But thanks mainly to the bold and proactive role by Indian government all obstacles was overcome and in the process history is made.

It also marks a new chapter in the growing relations between India and USA. It was largely to the diplomatic powers of the USA that this weaver could be affected. It opens the doors to un- precedent opportunities for all. India gets enriched with high end technologies that was so far denied to her and also will considerably help in fulfilling and quenching her ever growing need for power. For the USA and other powers, it opens up opportunities to do business with one of the largest and fastest economic powers of the new world.

Let us congragulate India on this un precedented and historic success
