An open letter:

In recent days, it has become quite a fashion for all those "intellectuals" to return the awards that they have won stating the state of the intolerance in the country. This left me thinking as to propriety of the actions of these so called intellectuals.

The reason that is stated is the fact that there are increasing intolerance in the country. But the moot question is " has anything new happened since the new government in the centre led by Modi taken over. If you talk about those deaths in some states, why is that you are not blaming the state government who is responsible for the law and order of the concerned state? Why blame the centre who does not have any control over the security scenario in these states? Why not ask the chief ministers of these states as to why they failed to protect the citizens?

The moot question that keeps lingering in my mind is why you are not crying when a soldier lays down his life in service of our motherland? why is it that you have not cried foul when a certain section of the society was forced to move out of their home and live as destitutes in their own country? Why is it that you have not cried foul when a certain section of the society was targeted just because they belong to a particular sect in the 1984 riots?

Awards are not bestowed on you by the government. Awards are bestowed on you by your country recognizing your achievement in a particular field. Then by returning those awards, are you not insulting your motherland?

I was just reading the bragging by a prominent and self styled social activist as to why she returned the awards. To be true, her fifteen minutes of fame was only when she won an award for a book that she wrote. From then on, she has always been against this great country of ours, supporting as she did terrorists who are against this country. But due to the greatness of our country, this author can get away with such ridiculous comments.

Anyway please do not insult your country like this. The awards that was given to you was in recognition of the services rendered by you. It is a grace. Remember if you insult your nation, you insult yourself.

Let us think for ourselves before we take such self humiliating actions. remember, our nation is greater than personal grudges.
