Nigeria’s Giant Military Is No Match For Boko Haram ( Copy Right @ Global Post)

Nigerian Army ( Image Courtesy- Wikimedoa commons/ US Military) There was a time not so long ago when a mutiny by Nigerian soldiers invariably led to bloodshed, arrests and a new government in Lagos. On Wednesday, when army troops launched an unsuccessful attempt to assassinate one of their country’s most prominent generals, it sent a shiver down older spines. The attempt was unsuccessful and appears to be no threat to the country’s government. But like the current standoff with Boko Haram, a militant group that kidnapped more than 200 girls last month from a remote village school, the botched assassination is shining an unwelcomed spotlight on a flailing military force. On Friday, President Goodluck Jonathan abruptly  canceled  his planned visit to the area due to security concerns.  Nigeria ’s army came by its reputation for brutality honestly. The military ruled Nigeria as a dictatorship for most of the period between independence from Britain in 1960 and 1998, when

India needs a makeover from dove to hawk on Pakistan and China ( Copy Right @ DNA India/ Author- Kanwal Sibal)

Agni-1 Missile ( Image courtesy- Wikimedia Commons /DRDO) It is obvious that India's priority in foreign policy objective should be to create a favourable external environment for national construction. This implies promoting peace and stability in our immediate neighbourhood and constructively engaging those countries that can contribute to India's well-being and growth. Our external strength is as good as our internal one. The outlined priority goals can therefore be best achieved by becoming stronger internally, which means improved governance, sound economic policies and augmented defence capabilities. Pakistan and China form the core of our external problems. Only these two occupy our territory and claim more. Their military forces are positioned on our borders. China's only friend is Pakistan, with their "iron" ties welded together by a shared animus towards India. China has helped Pakistan become nuclear. Even today it is transferring nuc

Scientists Claim That Quantum Theory Proves Consciousness Moves To Another Universe At Death ( Copy Right @ Spirit Science and Metaphysics, Author- Robert Lanza)

Image courtesy- Wikimedia commons Beyond time and space Lanza is an expert in regenerative medicine and scientific director of Advanced Cell Technology Company. Before he has been known for his extensive research which dealt with stem cells, he was also famous for several successful experiments on cloning endangered animal species. But not so long ago, the scientist became involved with physics, quantum mechanics and astrophysics. This explosive mixture has given birth to the new theory of biocentrism, which the professor has been preaching ever since.  Biocentrism teaches that life and consciousness are fundamental to the universe.  It is consciousness that creates the material universe, not the other way around. Lanza points to the structure of the universe itself, and that the laws, forces, and constants of the universe appear to be fine-tuned for life, implying intelligence existed prior to matter.  He also claims that space and time are not objects or things, but rat

Narendra Modi: India's Shinzo Abe (Copy Right @ Project Syndicate 2014, Author Brahma Chellaney)

Image courtesy- Wikimedia commons NEW DELHI – After a prolonged period of political drift and paralysis, India’s new government will be led by a man known for his decisiveness. Just as Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s return to power in late 2012, after six years of political instability, reflected Japan’s determination to reinvent itself as a more competitive and confident country, Narendra Modi’s election victory reflects Indians’ desire for a dynamic, assertive leader to help revitalize their country’s economy and security. Like Abe, Modi is expected to focus on reviving India’s economic fortunes while simultaneously bolstering its defenses and strengthening its strategic partnerships with likeminded states, thereby promoting regional stability and blocking the rise of a Sino-centric Asia. The charismatic Modi – a darling of business leaders at home and abroad – has promised to restore rapid economic growth, saying there should be  “no red tape, only red carpet”  for

2014 Elections- India votes for change ( An introspection)

The results for the General Elections-2014 are out. India has conclusively voted for change and it has voted big. Not only is the grand old party, Congress staring at it's worst ever defeat but also the credibility of it's leaders are in question. The BJP which was in the opposition for the last 10 years is winning with a land slide margin. So what had really gone wrong for the congress and what is the message that the common man is sending to those in governance? It is time for an introspection..... The Congress had been in power for the last 10 years. But in the last 10 years, there had always been a lack of good governance. That holds true particularly in the last 5 years when lack of good governance was glaring and at it's worst. There had been a huge hike in prices with the government showing a lack for concern of the common man. Corruption had reached it's peak with several of the top leaders of the ruling coalition been seen having a major part in such c

China's Oil Rig Gambit: South China Sea Game-Changer? ( Copy Right @ The Diplomat, Author- Carl Thayer)

Oil Rig ( Pic courtesy- Wikimedia Commons/ Author- Divulgacao Petrobras) China’s placement of the giant state-owned oil rig HD-981 in Block 143 inside Vietnam’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) on May 2 was unexpected, provocative and illegal. This incident marks the first time China has placed one of its oil rigs in the EEZ of another state without prior permission. This was an unexpected move because China-Vietnam relations have been on an upward trajectory since the visit to Hanoi by Premier Li Keqiang in October. At that time, both sides indicated they had reached agreement to carry forward discussions on maritime issues. China’s move was also unexpected because Vietnam has not undertaken any discernible provocative action that would justify China’s unprecedented actions. China’s deployment of the rig was provocative because the oil rig was accompanied by as many as 80 ships, including seven People’s Liberation Army Navy warships. When Vietnam dispatched Coast Guard vessels

India Inches Closer to Credible Nuclear Triad With K-4 SLBM Test ( Copy Right @ The Diplomat, Author- Ankit Panda)

K-4 Missile launch ( Pic courtesy-DRDO) Recently, India  secretly tested  its most advanced submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) to date. The K-4 SLBM gives India the ability to strike a land target 3,000 km away from an undersea firing platform and is a significant boon to India’s nuclear weapons program, extending India’s ability to credibly deter a nuclear-armed rival from attacking first. A robust sea-based deterrent is necessary to field a credible second-strike capability and the K-4 SLBM does just that. According to  The Hindu , the K-4 was tested on March 24, 2014, a few weeks shy of the 16th anniversary of India’s controversial 1998 Pokhran-II nuclear tests. The test went off without a hitch: The launch took place from a pontoon submerged more than 30 metres deep in the sea off the Visakhapatnam coast. After a powerful gas generator ejected it from the pontoon submerged in the Bay of Bengal, the K-4 missile rose into the air, took a turn towards the designate

Army Sergeant Will Receive Medal Of Honor Today For Heroics In This Hellish 16-Hour Battle ( Copy Right @ The Business Insider)

US Army ( Pic courtesy- Wikimedia commons/ US Army) A former Army sergeant will be awarded the Medal of Honor today for his heroics during a hellish 2007 battle in Afghanistan. Former Sgt. Kyle J. White, who was just 20 years old during the firefight on Nov. 8, 2007, repeatedly ran through  intense enemy gunfire to get  to wounded troops, called in steady reports and air support to beat back Taliban fighters, and directed medical evacuations for the dead and wounded, Army Times reports. "An RPG [rocket-propelled grenade] hit right behind my head and knocked me unconscious ... it was just lights out ... when I woke up, I was face-down on a rock," White  told  Army News Service, recalling that as he came to, an enemy round fragmented near his head and sent a shower of broken rock chips and debris into the side of his face. "I didn't feel pain at all, just numb like when you go to the dentist." With chaos all around him, White realized that 10 of those
