The Agni-V’s effective range covers all of China and part of Europe. With this addition to its arsenal, India has now joined the elite ICBM club with just five other countries across the world: the United States, Russia, France, China, and Britain. While the country conducted two tests earlier in 2012 and 2013, the current version of Agni-V is said to be significantly cutting-edge in its navigation and guidance capabilities. Agni-5 ( Image credits- DRDO) Source- Want China Times India's Defence Research and Development Organization under the country's defense ministry is preparing to test various intercontinental ballistic missiles with the ability to attack targets in the Far East, Africa and even Europe according to the official website of the People's Liberation Army's China Defense Science and Technology Information Center. A source from the Indian military said that the country is ready to test three types of Agni intercontinental missiles after the launch of the Nirbhay subsonic cruise missile in November. The missiles include the Agni-II, with a range 2,000 kilometers, and perhaps even the Agni-IV, with a range of 4,000 km, the source said, while the Defence Research and Development Organization said the Agni-V, estimated to have a range of 5,000-8,000 kilometers, will be tested as well. Agni-5 propels India into the exclusive club of nations having ICBM capability, the others being USA, Russia, Britain, France and China. On the onset, let me congratulate the Indian scientists on this remarkable achievement. Now Agni-5 has been widely seen as a game changer in the security calculus of Asia. It is because for the first time, the entire China falls with in the range of this missile which will prove to be an effective deterrence against India.
