This marks the end of a 45-day long review period, following President Obama’s request for Cuba’s status review in December, when a joint resolution in the House and the Senate could have been passed to block the lifting of economic sanctions associated with SST status. Thankfully, the U.S. Congress did not derail this historical initiative. Cuba was first added to the list in 1982; and has remained there even after the end of the Cold War.
