It’s Official: There Will Be No Iranian ICBM in 2015 ( Source- The National Interest / Author- Greg Thielmann)

Image credits- Wikimedia Commons / United States Airforce Source- The National Interest Author- Greg Thielmann For many years, U.S. intelligence officials have publicly assessed that Iran could possibly flight-test an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) by 2015. Among other consequences, this now outdated projection, and misinterpretations of it, prompted policymakers to schedule the deployment of ever more advanced missile defense systems into Europe, and led Congress to propose building a major strategic interceptor base on the Eastern Seaboard of the United States. GOP presidential candidates have also made hyperbolic claims based on the 2015 date. For example, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) warned in January that Iran would soon be able to launch nuclear strikes against “New York or Los Angeles.” But sometime during the past few months, the long-standing official estimate of Iran’s potential intercontinental missile capability was significantly revised. Emad: Iran’s New Ballistic Missile Amid The Nuclear Deal – Analysis ( Source- Eurasia Review / Author- Debalina Ghoshal)

Iran's new EMAD MRBM (Credits- Internet image) Source- Eurasia Review Author- Debalina Ghoshal Iran recently test-fired the ‘Emad’, a precision-guided medium-range surface-to-surface ballistic missile. The missile has a range of 1700 kms and a payload capacity of 750kgs. Any missile above a 500 kg payload is considered nuclear capable. Emad is liquid-fuelled but with improved accuracy and maneuverable re-entry vehicles for evading enemy defence systems. This improved accuracy is extremely important if Iran is to deliver a conventional payload. The missile is also reported to carry thrusters for course correction. Reports suggest that this missile is an improved version of the liquid-fuelled Shahab missiles. The maneuverability is achieved by steering warheads that can perform last minute maneuvering even at the terminal phase. According to Iranian Defence Minister Hossein Dehghan, Emad is Iran’s first ever missile that can be guided and controlled until the missil

What Weapons Will a Post-Deal Iran Look to Purchase? Pretty Much Everything ( Source- The Diplomat / Author- Robert Farley)

Iranian Matla-ul-fajr radar ( Image source- Wikimedia Commons / Author- M-ATF) Source- The Diplomat Author- Robert Farley The recent deal between the P5+1 and Iran over the latter’s nuclear program means, reportedly, that Iran will once again be on the market for advanced weapons technology, and that (eventually) it will have money to spend. There is little question that both Russia and China have been looking forward to this moment. Indeed, Russian and Chinese forbearance has been one of the miracles of the sanctions process, evidence that neither, however much they like to tweak the United States, actually favors a nuclear Iran. But even if the deal fails to make its way through the U.S. and Iranian diplomatic process, the arms embargo has a very limited lifespan. What does Iran need? Pretty much everything. Thirty years of sanctions and war have left the Iranian military with an arsenal of obsolescent weapons. The Iranians have done good work in a few areas, bu

Exposed: Iran Can't Dominate the Middle East ( Source- The National Interest / Author- Zachary Keck)

Iranian Frigate Jamaran ( Source- Wikimedia Commons / Credits- Aspahbod) Source- The National Interest Author- Zachary Keck In recent weeks, many have expressed growing concern over Iran’s potential to dominate the Middle East, particularly if it receives sanctions relief as part of a comprehensive nuclear deal. These concerns, while not completely without merit, are greatly exaggerated. Iran's gains in recent years have not been nearly as extensive as is often claimed, while the setbacks it has suffered have been all but ignored. Concerns about Iran’s potential to dominate the region originate from the belief that Iran has made significant gains throughout the region over the last decade. James Stavridis, the former Supreme Commander of NATO, summed up the thinking of many when writing, “A glance around the region shows the power and reach of Iran today, despite the significant imposition of sanctions. Indeed, Iran is deeply and successfully dominating politics i

Exposed: Iran Faked Sinking Mock US Aircraft Carrier (Source- The National Interest / Author- Zachary Keck)

USS Nimitz (CVN-68) ( Image source- Wikimedia Commons / Author- United States Navy) Source- The National Interest Author Zachary Keck Iran faked destroying a mock-up U.S. aircraft carrier, new satellite images reveal. According to Bellingcat, new satellite images show that the mock-up of the USS Nimitz nuclear-powered aircraft carrier that Iran claimed to destroy back in February was actually towed back to port. “New satellite imagery shows that Iran’s mock-up aircraft carrier was not destroyed during naval exercises but was towed back to Bandar Abbas,” the report said. “The 16 mock aircraft previously visible on handhelds and satellite imagery were nowhere to be found.” The report and corresponding satellite imagery showed the mock-up had sustained extensive damage. Back in March of 2014, CNN first reported, citing satellite images, that Iran was busy constructing a mock-up of the USS Nimitz at the Bandar Abbas port. Unnamed U.S. military officials at the tim

Iran's Fancy New Long-Range Missile Can Strike Israel ( Source- The Diplomat / Author- Franz Stefan-Gady)

Russian Kh-55 Cruise Missile ( Image credits- Wikimedia Commons / Author- George Chernilevsky) Source- The Diplomat Author- Franz Stefan-Gady On March 8, Iran’s Ministry of Defense (MoD) unveiled a new ground-launched cruise missile produced by Tehran’s Aerospace Industries Organization (AIO). The new surface-to-surface missile, designated the Soumar (after a city destroyed during the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq War), is based on the Russian Kh-55 — the backbone of the Russian air-launched nuclear deterrent. Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan praised the new missile as an “effective step” in strengthening the country’s deterrence capabilities. Dehghan noted the missile is capable of hitting long-range targets with “high accuracy, while evading enemy counter-measures.” According to Western intelligence agencies, the missile is not capable of carrying a nuclear device due the small size of the weapon’s payload. The missile allegedly has a range of 2,500 to 3,000 km. In

Did Iran Just Create a Stealth Drone from Captured American Tech? ( Source- The National Interest, Author- Dave Majumdar)

RQ170- Sentinel ( Image credits- Wikimedia Commons/ Author-Truth Dowser Source- The National Interest Author- Dave Majumdar Sources familiar with the Lockheed Martin RQ-170 Sentinel unmanned reconnaissance aircraft tell the National Interest that Iran’s copy of the drone is probably a fake. Iran’s claims that it built a 60 percent scale prototype of an unmanned combat aircraft reverse engineered from a RQ-170 that crashed over that country in December 2011. Iran claims that it downed the aircraft via a cyberattack while at least one U.S. official said that Tehran’s account might not be entirely inaccurate. Earlier in the week, Iranian state television released a video that allegedly shows the Sentinel knock-off in the air. An aerospace engineer familiar with the RQ-170 said that the Iranian machine is most likely not a prototype, but something more akin to a remote controlled toy, given what is shown in the video footage. The original U.S.-made RQ-170 was not a small aircr

Iran’s Navy: Asian Ambitions? ( Copy Right @ The Diplomat, original article by Trevor Hollingsbee)

Image courtesy- The Reuters/ Muhamed Nureldin Abdalla Iran has a significant history of long-distance seafaring in pursuit of trade with Asia. The presence, to this day, of wealthy and influential families of Iranian descent in some Asian countries, notably India and Thailand, is lingering evidence of early Iranian maritime ambitions in the region. Tehran’s recent foreign policy has been aimed mainly at countering the isolation brought about through international sanctions, by prioritizing official contacts with a relatively small number of friendly nations, and demonstrating that Iran retains credible international reach. The Iranian leadership is, therefore, keen to demonstrate its country’s continuing blue water capability. Over the past seven years, Iran’s offshore naval force, the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy (IRIN), has undertaken about 30 increasingly ambitious overseas deployments. IRIN’s focus is firmly on offshore waters, as coastal operations are the responsibilit
