The 123 Agreement

There has been a lot of talk for and against the nuclear deal between India and USA popularly known as the 123 agreement. I just wanted to analyse the pros and cons of the deal which I largely support as the benefit for the country is enormousness. extraordinary There are so many misunderstandings about this deal. First off, it should be noted that this deal entitles us to the supply of latest nuclear technology that was so far denied to us. Then we are also assured of continuous supply of uranium which if my limited knowledge on this subject is correct which India is lacking. This agreement entitles us to keep just 14 nuclear reactors under IAEA safeguards.. These reactors even now does not produce the fissile materials for India's nuclear weapons program. The rest 8 reactors that is the core to India's weapons program is off the purview of this agreement and no IAEA inspectors can set foot in these reactors. Further the fast breeder reactors that India is now developing is also out of the preview of this agreement.

Further India can on circumstances withdraw from this deal and conduct nuclear tests.
Thermal power is mainly relaying on resource that is fast diminishing. So is it true with hydel power. With rain supply that is unreliable, it will not be able to feed the growing Indian appetite for more power. Wind and solar energy even now can at best be stated to be an unreliable source of energy.

Now I am truly surprised with the assertion about China being India's friend and ally being propagated by several "political parties" and a section of the media. It is the naked truth that India and China are adversaries. China is one of the greater proliferators of weapons against India by giving the same to Pakistan and other other countries in the region nuclear technology and weapons. It is China's goal to surround India through their string of pearls strategy by which they will try to surround India with military bases around India peninsula. In international world of politics, there are no permanent friends or enemies, but only permanent national interests. It is in India's national interests to go with the deal and see it through it's entirety.
